Making the Change for a Better Environment

... and social skills to our foster care and underserved communitiesBefore green jobs came to my neighborhood, people threw trash everywhere without thought. Even members of my family were guilty of this and as a member of a volunteer organization; it took a while to de-program their way of thinking.

I had a teacher at my school that taught social studies and every so often, she would weave in actual politics that affected my community. Even though she grew up in a rough neighborhood as well, she wanted to use her resources to make things better.

So along with religious leaders and community activists, she created an aggressive program to recycle and utilize green living strategies like creating a simple solar panel to lower electric bills. With funding, a few paid and volunteer positions were created. I work part-time on the weekends.

Now my family and neighbors have gotten on the boat to see to it that the area is clean and people are working.

Some of my neighbors see me as that old hippie dude, even though I wasn’t born until the end of the 1960s. They still call me nature boy and if that’s how I’m going to be remembered, fine. Though some looked at me strange when I told them about green hosting and how it can help to save the earth.

I used to pass around literature and even break down how a carbon footprint can harm us all. Then realized the perfect place to back up my claims, the neighborhood watch meeting that was being held at my home.

These last about an hour so I used my laptop to show a PowerPoint presentation. This was my opportunity to inform people that this service is just as fast as any ultimate package the larger hosting companies promote. Going online to switch windows, I showed them how I did this with such ease.
